Book Review | Thief (The Scarab Beetle Series) By C.L. Stone
I have to say this is one book I wouldn't have normally read but I am glad I did.
Product Description (from goodreads.com): Kayli Winchester is a dirt-poor girl living out of a hotel, forced to be the parent for a drunken father and teenage brother who she’s desperate to keep in school. The only way she scrapes by is to utilize her one skill: pickpocketing. But even though she’s a thief she has a moral code: no kids or old ladies, only targets who can defend themselves. Not that they see her coming… Thinking she’s been working under the radar, Kayli has no idea The Academy has been watching and taking notice. Now a team that needs her skill has offered her a way out of her predicament and it’s her last chance: work with them, or face jail time.
Pro's: Start
Action
Bad Guy Good Guy switcheroo
Cons: Ending
My Thoughts: After reading the blurb of this book I bought it on my kindle. I was intrigued and excited to start a new series, I even bought the second book along with it. However, I wouldn't say I was disappointed with this book but I wasn't exactly jumping off my seat. I loved the characters, I love the whole good girl doing bad things gets taken in and given everything she wants vibe, but I think this story could of had more to it.
I didn't like the fact that Kayli, our Heroine, basically felt feelings for every guy she encountered and kisses about four of them. I could understand having feelings for the charming and handsome yet incredibly dangerous bad guy. I can understand the feelings towards Brandon, but I think with the others she gets a little to carried away. Hopefully she'll decide to date just one of them at a time, and hope that she doesn't split the group. Although, I kinda thought she'd get with Axel. Just saying.
I like how she fits into the group, and was found because she pick pocket people in the mall just to keep her brother in school. I like the bad dad vibe going on and honestly Most of this story was good.
The only thing I didnt like was that no-one noticed Wil was missing until the last 4 pages. Seriously someone must have noticed that all the things the neighbours were saying didn't add up!
Have you read this book?
