Another day, another blog tour. I received this free ebook copy of The Riviera through NetGalley as I signed up to the blog tour with Jenny In Neverland. If you want to check out her blog I suggest you do so, and if you're an author wanting to promote your book she has a website for that too!
Blurb: The journey is only as good as its end…It’s been a hard journey, but Lizzie Lambert’s life is a Provençal dream come true. Her business is wildly successful, and with her little boy and the love of her life, Cal, she is making a beautiful home on the vineyard for their blended family.
But when Cal goes to America to support his son through a teenage crisis, it becomes clear the kid’s not the only one with some growing up to do: Cal’s glamorous ex-wife wants to get her claws in him again. As Cal spends longer and longer away, Lizzie wonders, was it all too good to be true?
Review: Not hearing of the author beforehand and mainly taking part because of the gorgeous cover that is on the book I had no idea what to expect when I opened to the first page. I've since found out this is a sequel to The Vineyard however I have not read that so I am reading this as a standalone.
Lizzie's life is starting out pretty well, until every spanner is put in the works to ruin her happy ending. Cal is making plans for their dream home, Lizzie's business is booming and their love is all consuming. Their happiness is so very apparent in the beginning of the novel until a text from Cal's son so cryptic he drops everything and runs off to America and his sons aid.
Due to Cal not being there during most of his sons early years he feels that he has to be there for him now. He is so determined he doesn't even give leaving a second thought, which I thought was very good of him as a father. Unbeknown to Cal the more time he spends with his sons the more his relationship with Lizzie begins its spiral into the ground. While Cal is rushed to and fro to be with both his son and his love, Lizzie has a few surprises of her own to content with.
After a few happy moments, sad moments a tough conversations a few this book shows everyone how miscommunication and and lack of trust can hurt relationships in a few seconds. While I enjoyed the story I felt it didn't really have an ending which left me feeling empty. I mean sure all the characters were happy in the end however I felt the story isn't finished and didn't end in the way I expected it to.
Rating: 3/5 Stars
Comment: Unfortunately this book didn't play out how I was expecting however this is a very enjoyable book that gives an easy read and I'm certain a lot of people will enjoy it.
