Book Review | Fire & Flood by Victoria Scott

Sometimes I pick up books just because I love the covers. I'm very much see it like it read it buy it in my book ways. This cover for me is so simplistic it is beautiful and so I picked it up and read the back and needless to say it was the perfect blurb to capture my attention.

Blurb: Tella Holloway is losing it. Her brother is sick, and when a dozen doctors can't determine what's wrong, her parents decide to move to Montana for the fresh air. She's lost her friends, her parents are driving her crazy, her brother is dying—and she's helpless to change anything.
Until she receives mysterious instructions on how to become a Contender in the Brimstone Bleed. It's an epic race across jungle, desert, ocean, and mountain that could win her the prize she desperately desires: the Cure for her brother's illness. But all the Contenders are after the Cure for people they love, and there's no guarantee that Tella (or any of them) will survive the race.
The jungle is terrifying, the clock is ticking, and Tella knows she can't trust the allies she makes. And one big question emerges: Why have so many fallen sick in the first place?

Review: I've seen a lot of reviews comparing this book to The Hunger Games so lets get this point out of the way. It does have a contest where there is only one winner and people die, however, there is so much more to this book. Fire & Flood is definitely similar to The Hunger Games but I think it tells it's own story that you can easily get immersed in.

Tella is a teenager who's brother is very sick. She desperately wants him to get better and then a magical little box appears. This teaches and invites her to The Brimstone Bleed. Without thought or regards to her parents she takes off in the middle of the night to be a participant.

An action packed middle with a cliffhanger and less similaraities to the Hunger Games this book is pretty much an original story. Overall I loved it and honestly cannot wait to start Salt & Stone - just need to move into the boyfriends first. My books are still at my parents.

Rating: 4/5 Stars
Comment: Maybe similar tot he hunger games in some aspects but all in all a fabulous original story.
