Book Review | The Accident Season* by Moira Fowley-Doyle

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review of the book. It's a book I've had my eye on for a while and have been so excited to read. It's such an original idea and that makes me want to read it all the more!

No Spoilers.

Blurb: It's the accident season, the same time every year. Bones break, skin tears, bruises bloom.

The accident season has been part of seventeen-year-old Cara's life for as long as she can remember. Towards the end of October, foreshadowed by the deaths of many relatives before them, Cara's family becomes inexplicably accident-prone. They banish knives to locked drawers, cover sharp table edges with padding, switch off electrical items - but injuries follow wherever they go, and the accident season becomes an ever-growing obsession and fear.

But why are they so cursed? And how can they break free?

Review: All you need to read is the first four lines, and you want to know more of the story. It's very slow to get into and although you're reading and the story is moving along you don't learn anything about the accident season and what it actually is until later in the book.

Some parts of the book were slightly thriller in the sense that it made my arm hairs stand on end while I was reading. There were moments where you're just sat there reading thinking "okay this is getting creepy" which is awesome because then the next paragraph completely changes that thought process. I absolutely love how through the entire story there are various plots that the writer follows subconsciously make you continue reading.

Romance develops well for the characters throughout the story, and it's not obvious whether both parties feel the same instantly. It's very refreshing to have a book surprise you where romance is concerned.

The ending left me very confused and honestly I don't really fully understand what the story was about. I have an idea but I guess thats what good books do, they keep you thinking.
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Comment: I liked this book but I wouldn't class it as one of my favourites, definitely glad I read it though
